On December 30, 2022, Associate Professor Nguyen Nam Long – Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore had an interesting meeting with lecturers, researchers and students of International University, VNU-HCM through a seminar with the topic “Application of Lipidomic in medical research”.

During the 120-minutes seminar, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Nam Long focused on analyzing the role of transmembrane transporters (Spns2) and highlighting their characteristics through the results obtained in his study. First, he presents the role of S1P in the immune and circulatory systems, especially in fetal development in mice; then, the role of Mfsd2b and Spns2. Next, he also presented about the role of Spns1 in diseases related to the accumulation of substances in lysosomes (Lysosomal Storage Diseases). Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Nam Long also explains some important techniques used in the research. Thereby, the role of Lipidomics is also clarified when this method is applied to speaker research in general and Spns2 research in particular.

The workshop took place successfully with the participation of researchers and students interested in the role of membrane transporters in health and disease, thereby bringing a lot of knowledge for the development of therapies in the future. The workshop provided more useful knowledge for participants, opening up many cooperation opportunities between RCID and NUS.
